"To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and to endure the betrayal of false friends. To appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." -- Ralph Waldo Emerson

Actually, losing fat from around the mid-section is not really about "targeting" the mid-section, per se, but, more about tackling fat all over the body, but most often and most importantly, where it seems to accumulate the most, especially in older individuals. The truth is, if a person is fat to the point where they need to diet (but still not "morbidly obese") - "flabby" is the term - then there's actually extra fat all over the body, but its most apparent at the mid-section. So, if they need to lose fat, most people think they are targeting the mid-section, just because it looks the worst. What they are actually doing (if they ARE on a good diet and exercise program) is losing fat from all over, but mentally targeting where its most visual, and, uh, disgusting. But the fat is removed from all over, during the process, with the biggest (and, albeit, slowest) differences being made, where it has accumulated the most.
